I feel like Cody current run is actually good. I think the whole narrative of people saying that he’s been a boring champion is just completely ridiculous. I would be surprised those are the same people who look back on Jinder Mahal’s 2017 WWE championship run it was objectively a good run. Anybody who is in Cody’s position following Roman Reign’s 1, 316 reign was undoubtedly going to serve as a tough act to follow because the fact that the company put so much effort of building Roman as the end-all-be-all superstar the past several years at the expense of making everybody else to be beneath him. People should at least give credit to Cody for at least trying to make his championship run great. At least 90% of his matches he’s had have been top-tier quality bangers.

5:41 “while he continues to woo arenas … social media fans aren’t so happy” that’s just the thing. Social media “fans” are never happy with anything.

The title of the video should be “losing interest with ONLINE fans” because it’s the minority of people who don’t like his reign. Fans at the arena still love him same way

7:20 the thing is bunny, that was the case. With no bloodline or it's just him and paul, Roman naturally had that aura. Even before he became the tribal chief. There was times where he came out alone as the tribal chief and he got revolutionary pops and even bigger now with his OTC character

LMAO calling it a failed run while it is happening and selling out arenas and merch like never before is crazy. There has been a vocal minority that since day 1 of his reign has been shouting that fans are tired of him and will turn on him any day now, they have been wrong for nearly 9 months straight now.

The discourse surrounding Cody's title run so far has mainly only been online. He's still very much over with the larger general audience which is reflected in every arena he's in. While people might have their criticisms (and a lot of it is valid), Cody Rhodes is WWE's most successful top babyface since the Attitude Era by every business metric. To label him a "failure" of a champion is objectively false. A report even came out recently stating how WWE is very satisfied with Cody's run because it's been working wonders for them.

Also, a lot of the points made in the video also applied to Roman when he had the championship. As heralded as his record-setting championship reign was, Roman's title run (the year prior losing to Cody especially) was also heavily criticized for similar reasons - no credible threats, predictable finishes, and also an over-reliance of the slow/plodding style of Bloodline matches. It's not a Roman or Cody problem, but more an issue of booking and circumstance.

4:37 I think part of you not being into that KO angle is because you don't have context of who Kevin and Cody were as characters in previous years. Predictable as that match was, the character work and story of that Kevin vs Cody feud was actually praised by long time viewers. Even now, Kevin is getting praised for his justified heel storyline. What they're doing with KO is part of an organic Drew McIntryre-esque character arc that's going to lead into the next chapter with Cody and Randy heading into the end of the year. As a result, Cody finally has a substantial non-Bloodline feud that they can also use to feed into the next big feud in Cody vs Randy. And who knows - KO might have already signed a new WWE contract and that makes him a legitimate threat in taking Cody's title, at least for the short term. Last time Kevin signed a new WWE contract, he got a massive pay raise, main evented WrestleMania with Steve Austin and main evented again the following year alongside his best friend Sami. Him staying and signing another new contract might mean similar significant implications.

I strongly believe the biggest weak link in Cody's reign is the lack of believable threats. Like any other form of entertainment, the hero is only as good as the villain they face, and there just aren't any legitimate threats for Cody to face...except one...

Drew McIntyre.

Despite losing his feud with CM Punk, the driven brutality Drew put on display during that 10-month arc was top-tier villainy. Imagine McIntyre MANHANDLING Rhodes the way he mangled Punk. Drew could be a legitimate threat. It might take some creative storytelling to get him there, but he's the only active heel wrestler that could represent a credible danger to the American Nightmare.

Those who complains about cody rhodes title run are mostly Internet wrestling nerds and bloodline fans. Cody is the superstar of the year and now having the best run of his career. Don't mind them the fans at the arena and around the world are still cheering for him.

7:18 Roman reigns always had that aura, and Roman reigns, was alone at some point in his career. Also, when he was the big dog and he still had more hype than Cody. the problem with Cody is his story wasn’t realistic. Roman is just better in all aspects. Cody story was way too hyped up, then it should’ve been. Cody shouldn’t have won the championship.

It didn't fail lmao. He's a great storyteller and wrestler, all this is subjective. Can't keep counting on him to beef with bloodline. When heel orton strikes it'll be peak

I'd give Cody's reign thus far about 7/10. It has been good, but it hasn't been great. I thought the AJ "feud" was uninspired, and I didn't really care for him getting involved in bloodline stuff again. I expected it to be a bit more intetesting than this half a year in.

Not a Cody hater or anything but i have seen so far its has Average at best dont get me wrong his matches are good but storys have been meh, its like his opponents are doing the heavy lifting for him than the champion himself for eg: Aj styles, Now kevin ownes & Randy orton, And invloving him with bloodline story did not help, And hasnt defended his title in smackdown, wwe wanted him to finish story but did not know how to properly carry it forward 🤷

I don't care what anybody says. I love Cody and he is doing a good job in my eyes. The internet will never be satisfied.

I think people forgot what a nornal title reign looks like and are trying to compare it to Roman's

Codys had a good run its just been the expectations on him that have led to his run being criticized more than most

I hate these takes cause it’s just the opinion of the fans that talk the most and not the majority the loudest ppl are always unhappy with something u can give them everything they want they get it complain about how it happened or when watever I say just watch and form ur own opinion he’s a really good champion and when the Randy and Roman feuds happen it’s gonna be cinema

I think it's the wrestling content creators and the most active fans on social media (especially Twitter/ X) that sre losing interest. He still gers great reactions from live audiences. People still sing his song, they do the "WOOHOO!", and they chant his name. I've been hearing this idea that fans will turn on him anytime now for almost two years and it's yet to happen. He keeps having good matches, giving good promos, his interviews are good and he's oresented as vulnerable when The Rock, the Bloodline and most recently Kevin Owens have all attacked him and beaten him up. He also lost to The Rock and to Solo. And everything he's involved with makes sense. He will turn heel eventually, but not yet, only if and when it makes sense.

Cody's Reign is ok but the problem is that it took place after an all time great reign of roman that's why people are feeling that way

Yeah, clue is in the title regarding the tone of the video. You cant say something has failed yet until it's finished. We can't say whether it was a success or not until he loses the belt. Wrestling fans are so impatient, they are always trying to exist in the future before it happens.
