Some people argue that since Funakoshi didn't teach the bunkai, the actual application of these kata are lost, and all current applications re re-inventions. And I think that is OK, as long as it provides two things to the students: (1) They focus on an application, so they perform with focus and intensity of a battle, so kata does not become a dance, and (2) the repeated practice of these kata provides the student with practical self-defense skills.
I think Sensei Gimberline meets these two criteria wonderfully. Thanks for posting these videos.
