Nissan GT-R versus Jaguar F-Type R AWD Coupé Drag Race

We like fast coupés a lot on Autocar, and two of our current favourites are the Jaguar F-type R AWD and the Nissan GT-R, both of which come with 542bhp - so what better way to decide who is the coupé king than with a customary drag race? Matt Prior is your referee.

Dunno what wizardry Nissan has put into the AWD system but you cannot deny its technical superiority over the Jag in certain ways. Keep in mind the GT-R is already 8 years old and has rear seats!

That Jag in that color combination is gorgeous. In real life, who really cares about .3 of a second. 99.9% of the time, the sports car is about how it makes you feel when you walk up to it and when you drive it, and only .1% of the time when you are actually "racing". Outside of this video, I doubt drivers of these 2 cars would ever be racing. Did I mention how stunning that Jag is?

Umm... dude. The Jaguar didnt just lose by a small amount. It got smoked by a GTR. Half a car length isnt "just a little". Thats a lot.

The Nissan GT-R came out in 2008 and already destroying super cars that are 2014 or newer.  Can you imagine what the next generation Nissan GT-R with 800+ hp would do to other super cars?

I wonder if the result would have been any different if they did the race without launch control. I doubt I, the GTR is such a beast off the line, but I’d like to see it.

Still, I like the F-Type R much better.

As good as the GTR is, a Nissan over a Jag...really? The GTR has a boy racer image too. The Jag is classy and has one of the best designs this century

Jag does have launch control, so interesting. At least my V6S Coupe does.
Activation:
- Turn off traction control
- Enter Sport mode using Gear Lever
- Select 1st Gear
- Mash the Brakes
- Raise throttle to 2, 500 Rpms
* Dash Computer will notify you that you have entered launch control.
- Then foot off the brake and mash the throttle. Should give you a 0-60 run of 3.3-3.4 seconds and better times overall with the AWD R. Let me know if you have any other questions.
