Did anyone notice he spent the majority time sharpening, and 1/2 second showing him struggle to cut the end grain?!?

I think the band-aid on your knuckle says it all, So I became a journeyman in 1974, In England we're called carpenters and joiners, The Scottish Joiner that I worked my apprenticeship under, Would be turning his grave watching you use stones in plastic boxes, He made me take a piece of mahogany And hollow it out to a 2 piece Box Containing my stone, Looked a little bit like a small coffin, And at each end of the stone there was a wood platform, The same height As the stone, so you could Run your chisel the full length of the stone, So you don't produce the giant hollow that ends up in some stones, Also Other craftsmen would take your lid And rotate at 90゚ To see if it fit exactly the same, as it was a sign of craftsmanship, And not as easy as it sounds, Also 2 small Brad nails protruding from the bottom Was part of the design, To prevent it from slipping, So you don't need a band-aid while using it,

Perfect example of thinking you know something but knowing absolutely nothing.

Starting at 8000 grit only serves to polish the chisel, not really sharpen it

I grew up working in a woodshop just like this one as a teenager. What a great trade to get into. Absolutely loved every day of work. Building one of a kind custom high end furniture was so great. Starting with nothing and watching the finished product come out so beautiful was so fulfilling. 😍

You sharpened your guide more than your chisel, mate.

His lack of cleaning the stones after he uses them tells me everything I need to know about how "scary sharp" this butter knife bullshit really is.

Different chisel at finish. Single spine on one sharpened. Standard double bevel on testing.

Shapton pro 12k stone is finer than Chromium oxide pastes, so you're taking a step backwards with polishing. (Chromium oxide pastes are 3-1 micron, about 8, 000-10, 000 grit, the Shapton Pro 12k is <1 micron)

And stropping with that much pressure at that angle will fuck your apex pretty quickly.

Try refining your sharpening before you go to pointlessly high grits, maybe then you can trim a tenon.

I find it hilarious how many online vids show things that are incorrect.

If this guy took the time to hone what is called a micro bevel in the tip, then his chisel would have actually been sharp opposed to the the perfectly good chisel he basically just dulled up by sharpening it incorrectly. Tic Tok is a great way to learn how to do stuff the wrong way, by so called experts. Thanks for coming out big guy.

Но это не про это видео. =)

It never occurred to me to sharpen chisels. Makes sense. They're cutting tools, too. I sharpen my gauges for carving printing plates. Great video! I want that jig you used to maintain the angle.

Wow that's a huge Ura on the back of that chisel. wouldn't have to be if it was done on a kannaban lapping plate with 1000 grit GC powder or even 10, 000 stone powder if you wanted.

12000 is way overkill a 1000 sharpening block (the metal diamond ones I personally hate oil stone) gets your chisels sharp enough for any task

His sharpening block is not stable. How can u sharpen like that?

What sharpening compound do you use on your strop? More sharpening videos please

If I recall correctly, Paul Sellers said that they used to sharpen their chisels to 80 grit and then get back to work. I believe he sharpens them a little finer now, maybe 220, but that's plenty sharp enough. Same for his hand planes.

Same for my bits I use as a plumber. My first boss always taught me to take care of your tools. 😊 you make some amazing things

As a person that sharpen a lot I'll recommend a better strop with 5 micron diamond spray because you don't get much of a burr with that kind of grid
