Why do planets float in space?
Floating isn't really the right word here.
For one thing floating implies relative stillness. You may say that a balloon floats, but you wouldn't say that a jet-fighter or helicopter flying around floats in air.
For example earth moves around the sun once a year. That may seem like a leisurely pace until you realize that one circuit around the sun is 940 million kilometers and that the speed works out to be 30 km per second or about 90 times the speed of sound.
So there is no floating going on at all.
Racing, hurtling, caroming maybe, but not floating.
Moving sideways faster than you are falling down so things stay balanced. That is what an orbit is.
The only thing keeping Earth and Mars and all the other planets from falling into the sun is the fact that they are moving so fast in their orbits.
