Grandma vs not-grandma is all in the styling.
Re centre seam in a vintage skirt pattern - in the past fabrics weren't as wide as they currently are, so centre seams were popular. My Mum and Grandma have a stack of a-line skirt patterns with centre seams.

I love how you don’t hide the moments you mess up and power through them. Every time I mess up I shout “THIS IS NOT CHIC” and I feel like throwing my sewing machine through the wall. I learned to sew in Year 9 in 1983. 40 years later, sewing machines basically remain the same. I learned to thread on a Bernina. Today I got hold of my daughter's Janome sewing machine, and it threads in pretty much exactly the same way. My muscle memory knew exactly what to do.
I'm excited to sewing for the first time in decided.
