Aground - Bottom to near the Top

The Grand Union canal, once a main artery of the industrial revolution and Birmingham isn't what it used to be on the summit pound. Here the Narrow Boat Trust - a pair of historic boats run by a charity - have found that the bottom is to close to the top, and have run aground. Sometimes the power from the motor isn't just enough, so using the butty like a battering ram is the only way!

That was unusual. Getting a shove from the butty.

If they spent the all licence fee on the water ways and not the paths that make it a tourist attraction then the cuts would be better.

These canals made commerce feasible in their day. Now they are better at being interesting vagabond homes. What a wonderful way to see the country. (With quiet diesels or electric propulsion)
