I absolutely LOVE what Asian people do with food! And Guy is a national treasure, IMO. :)

I can not believe that place is in Alaska at "Ray's Place in Anchorage, Alaska!"

So sad that the US got drug into the Vietnam war by the French. There is an animosity towards the Vietnamese that they absolutely do not deserve in the US. It's gotten a lot less over time, but it is so not fair. I personally love pacific rim cooking. Huge fan of Korean cooking, but i've had Vietnamese cooking, Thai cooking, and Japanese cooking. All good in their own ways.

Original Banh Xeo doesn't include cabbage and carrot, it only has mung bean sprout

Chicken and cabbage? Usually pork belly and shrimp.

Never seen a banh xeo like that before...they're typically filled with pork and shrimp...never seen cabbage. Maybe it's because bean sprouts are hard to get in Alaska? Also, the one Guy had didn't look crunchy. If you're gonna get Vietnamese food, Alaska is definitely not the place to be getting benchmark-worthy Viet food. LOL! But kudos to her for at least trying in the frigid north like that.

DDD always misses the opportunity to teach people the real names of cultural food, instead of trying to Europeanise names & give reductive comparisons. Why not write the dish names phonetically at minimum?
