Beauty and joy are on full display. The classic Japanese folk song Sakura, Sakura introduces a charming, orchestral dance that is set in counterpoint to a warm, romantic melody. A solo for oboe (cued in Alto Saxophone), pentatonic scales, and careful scoring help this work to create a tapestry of colors and harmonic beauty that your audience is sure to appreciate.

We played this in band this earlier year and I loved it. Our oboe soloist killed it. Easily one of my favorites.

I love this piece, what a shame we never done it because of my clarinets. The intro (before the Oboe solo) would’ve been good for like a sad Outro of a series!
