Cyber security experts help arm our local community with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves against scammers.

In 2023, Australians lost $2.7 billion to scams and more than 600,000 scam were reported, according to an ACCC report. Older people suffered the greatest losses.

The scale a magnitude of scams creates fear and anxiety, as people second guess using links, answering unknown phone calls and agreeing to share their data.

We’ve brought together an expert panel to help create awareness, protect our data and learn simple security tools to keep ourselves, our families and our workplaces safe from cyber threats.

Our esteemed panel:

- Hon Stephen Jones MP, Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services
- Professor Katina Michael, Arizona State University & University of Wollongong
- Professor Shahriar Akter, University of Wollongong
- Tania Brown, Manager UOW Local (host and moderator)

This event was held at the Music Lounge at Wollongong Town Hall on 16 July 2024.
