We take care of a pair of hair sheep. Hair sheep have very little, if any wool, and are often confused with goats. The best way to tell is by looking at the tail. Hair sheep don't typically get their tails docked because they don't get dirty and attract flies like wooly sheep. All sheep tails hang downward. Hair sheep produce lanolin like their wooly cousins. If you pet a hair sheep, you will find a coating of waxy lanolin on your hands. Goats don't produce lanolin. The idea that sheep are stupid, passive creatures is a myth. I'm actually more leery of male sheep (rams) than billy goats. A ram will headbutt you if it thinks you might be a threat to the herd, or just for fun. Goats are more mellow and are usually more interested in a potential treat. Both goats and sheep are fairly intelligent.
