Great tip again Pete, I’d been working on this also. I like the feel of getting my lead leg to straight when the back of my knee (lead leg) is facing away from target. Great exaggeration feel for me. May work for others.

Exactly what my coach told me to do first time I was there💪💪
Move the knee first.
When that works straighten the leg. A 30 minute lesson and I went from a fade/slice to a baby draw with my mid irons. Still had to put loads of hours to get consistency in doing this but that small change made such a big difference 😎

Pete is explaining tiny bit of ground forces in the golf swing,
when the weight is loaded into the Left Foot, you then push off the ball of your left foot ( there is a direction that you are pushing away from) this will also releases the club.... I could be here all day explaining this but the guy you want to check out is zen golf mechanics he tells you in-depth kinematic sequence of the golf swing Pete I would recommend you get a lesson from him as well be great to see p.s. all my knowledge goes to Marcus Bell he has literally changed my golf swing and also freed my mind from mechanical thinking

This really helps! Straight away results! Best advice I have used in the golf swing.

It's like you read my mind of the questions I had. Thanks Peter

Awesome tip! Great content thanks Pete. A swing as smooth as a turd in the bath!

Best tip ever! Have tried this at the driving range today and it was a game changer really. My biggest problem is that my over body always want to start and by focusing at the left leg strighten up instead I made a great improvement. Thanks a lot, big help for me 🙂

This is a critical phase of the swing ! I seriously need to work on this !!
Thanks

Genius!
Feel left shoulder and left hip moving down the hill from the top then add some right side bend before impact 👊

Awesome. I’ve always had a problem with rotating early and pulling hard left (in the golf swing that is). Nobody covers this that I’ve seen so thanks again Pete

I find one of the things crucial to ideal lower body movement many golfers, especially older ones, lack is side-bend action in the spine which differs from tilt back or towards the ball. In the backswing of good ball strikers the spine curves to the left which helps to drop the lead shoulder and cause the hips to react by rotating and moving forward which causes the back leg to straighten.

At the very end if the backswing just before maxing out the shoulder turn a slight release of the left side bend will create a similar reaction in the lead hip, lead knee and lead leg. As the shoulders tum nearly back to parallel all the side bend will come out of the spine and that’s the point where powerful ball strikers crank in the right side bend which does many good things for the swing: drops the trail shoulder and causes the lead arm to become more vertical and able to swing down target line dragging club head on the same vector; causes the hips to react opposite the side bending action, around the feet and up which is what actually pulls the lead leg straight.

So it is not any muscular action in the leg pushing it straighter to clear the hips it is the side bending of the spine to the right between shoulders parallel moving the pelvis laterally and tilted up causing body mass to shift backwards into “counter fall” supported by the front foot.

Counter-fall is a balancing act between the mass of the body wanting to fall backwards and the force in the club head still wanting to go forward in the finish. By way of analogy the look and feel is similar to water skiing in which the skier has to lean back to counter the pulling force of the boat. Getting that front leg straight and angled back as demonstrated here is the key to making it happen ideally in the swing.

Hi Pete, great tips as usual. Some 7 years ago I had a lesson with Rick at Prarie sports, unfortunately I chose the wrong guy, I have consistently told myself that since then. I’m now 66 and unfortunately you no longer give lessons. But at least I can watch your tips here. Thank you. Melissa

It’s pretty cool. You don’t hear a lot of instruction or at least I don’t about the trail knee but thats a big part of what “controls” my swing. I stilt mine in tipped forward slightly and in the backswing once the pressure builds up enough it triggers my weight shift. Iv NEVER been able to turn the lead knee or do anything like that without spinning my shoulders out and coming way OTT. I bet this though of yours helps a lot of people

Great tip. I struggle with this move and at time’s still do. 😫

Thanks mate. It's something I've fought with my whole life. At times when I get to impact my right foot actually has the toes in the air.
