Jamaican talent is unlike that of any other nation on earth .... and now we are seeing it's evolution as it glides along with the changing global music which has finally embraced the foundation SET by the legends of Jamaican music in both Reggae and Dancehall. .
Some whose ears can't get with this new sound have been complaining about it. But watching performances like this is proof that today's emerging talents are poised to write a whole new FRESH chapter in the glorious history of Jamaican music.
The 2020's are NOT like the 80s or the 90s ... when every big producer had a cut of this riddim and that riddim.
The creativity of this generation TUN UP in a different way. They don't NEED the 'Dancehall session' atmosphere to practice their craft ; they have their home laptop studio for that. It took about 10 years for the sound to come together... and we are hearing the best examples of it now. The creativity is even MORE than the Studio One days, simply because there are more than just 2 or 3 labels putting out music.
Big up to all the rising stars with REAL talent. The only thing holding them back, is lack of support from the media outlets whose job it is to expose their work to the public .
Delighted to see BBC 1XTRA leading the way in making sure they get a global platform that puts all arguments to rest.
Get used to this because this is just the beginning.
This is a new sound from a new generation. It's Not reggae. It's Not Dancehall. Those will never stop being made and sounding good.. But this is a new sound that uses the foundation with an unlimited abundance of variety in moods, styles, flows, topics and production ... that's why I call this new genre YARD GROOVES.
