I adore the pillar stance, the ability to chill up in the air for a moment and even drink from your gourd before slapping a boss with a fully charged strike is too satisfying.

As a level 230 I can tell you using every single stance in tandem is so satisfying

In thrust stance you can retreat, forceful thrust and hold light attack into retreat, forceful thrust to hold light attack infinitely as long as you have stamina to dodge and attack. It's kinda broken when you get a hang of the timings.

thrust also allows you to briefly be invulnerable if you see through an enemy attack as well thrust works alot better going into a new area so you can learn new enemy attack patterns while staying relatively safe the only thing smash stance has going for it is the bonus damage on light combo apart from that thrust is just a safer option in general but there is a weapon you can get in chapter 3 that gives thrust stance a damage buff so there is that too

Ive tried to get into the habit of switching stances mid combat for their respective benefits... effectively you don need to but it feels more legit and a bit more immersive for me if Im jumping back and forth between stances mid fight. I went with one trick thrust and spellbind for my first playthrough.

The thrust dodge also has a cloud step ability if you get a perfect dodge. I didn't figure this out til ng+

Also not a Lot but when Youre on chapter 6 if You are in NG+ You get the "Wukong?" Stance, the Unique stance from the start of the Game and also the moveset (not all) from the final boss, it's pretty broken when used with that spell that increases Youre damage massively.


Also fun tip: there are almost no attacks that can interrupt You when You are using the especial combo of the pilar stance so use that to Youre advantage, You literally become a damage sponge, and the realese action DOES Dodge attacks so it's a thrust and smash combination.

The Pillar Stance is also good for attacking enemies up high that are just out of reach

You forgot to mention how pretty damn good the Thrust stance is when you're use to it. I'm over Lv.230 and i just realized this myself lol.
While in the stance, Perfect dodge an attack and you can do an instant heavy attack without doing the retreat.
Comes in handy a lot especially with Erlang NG+++.

Pillar stance is by far GOATED for boss fights. you can perch on the staff and heal up and try potions, plus you can avoid enemy attack on the ground

Thrust stance is the most effective in real life fighting in terms of martial arts, but for the game the Smash stance is the true goat
