To learn more about the TAVR stroke risk, we interviewed Dr. Isaac George, the Surgical Director of the Structural Heart Disease at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. During his extraordinary career, Dr. George has performed over 6,000 TAVR procedures.

Key questions answered by Dr. George in this video include:

1. How common is stroke during a TAVR procedure? What is the current patient stroke rate during TAVR?

2. Is it true that 100% of patients who undergo TAVR have some calcium travel to the brain?

3. How is the SENTINEL Cerebral Protection System, a new FDA-approved therapy, helping doctors prevent strokes during TAVR? What are the theoretical benefits of the SENTINEL?

4. How do SENTINEL filters collect calcium debris during a TAVR operation?

5. Why is the SENTINEL only used at 20% of cardiac centers that perform TAVR?

6. How might the PROTECT TAVR clinical trial impact the utility of the SENTINEL Cerebral Protection System during TAVR to minimize stroke risk?

Dr, I had open heart and tavr. It appears that I most likely will have to have it again. I'm 64, going through Every emotion. I'll be at Emory in Atlanta. Next Tuesday ❤

I was unaware that there were stroke issues associated to TAVR :( These videos are extremely enlightening! Thank you for sharing!

Question - is there a replacement for the nickel - what if someone is allergic to nickel?

Seeing a heart structural specialist, about having a TAVR procedure...I will definitely ask about using the Sentinel, or similar device....My situation is extra scary, as I have AFIB, consistent, for a couple of years, and understand that it can be another layer of iffy complication!. Basically, I am going to have to decide if I undergo an already scheduled Ablation for the AFIB first, or go through the TAVR procedure first, knowing that people like me, with AFIB, are at higher risk from the TAVR procedure!...Flip a coin, I guess!
