yeah, it wasn't really a surrender but peace aggreement. Soviets never got much of a land occupied but Finland lost that 11% of territory via moscow peace treaty.

Small nations, like Finland, were just chips for major powers. Before the Winter War everyone was more or less ready to throw Finland under the bus to either stay neutral or to ally with Soviet Union. Finland viewed the Soviet Union's buffer zone demands as a ruse to get Finland to give up its best defensive positions so that Finland would be easier to invade. In early stages of Winter War Soviet Union set up a puppet government to justify the invasion and to function as Finland's government after Finland would have been taken over. Stalin settled to dictate the peace terms to end the war when Britain and French were promising military aid to Finland so that Finland could carry on fighting and when they had made plans to bomb oil fields in Baku. Soviet Union was supplying oil to Germany as agreed in the pact they had made before they invaded Poland and before Soviet Union invaded Finland. During the Winter War Germany was already planning to invade Soviet Union and promised Finland that Finland would get the lost territories back with Germany's aid after Finland would first accept Stalin's peace terms. The peace terms meant that nearly half a million Finns (15 percent of the population) lost their homes with those lost territories. In the US the peace terms were viewed as democratic nations' incapability to help a small nation like Finland. The US media also criticized the US congress for hesitating and hindering Finland from getting aid. Later studies have showed that the military aid Britain and France were promising to Finland would have been too little too late—just as Finns thought at the time. A relating video to past and present: "Kekkonens Nightmare".

It was the so-called a defensive victory over a superior opponent, but in the number of dead and equipment losses and no hands were raised, it was a peace agreement on both sides.

11% of land was taken from us and 40k people were forced to leave their homes. It is a deep wound in Finnish culture still to this day. Karelia is area that got split. I am half Karelian myself.

Just so you know as a Finn, I've found that the more popular our wars against the Russians have lately become, the more embellished the statements of foreign content creators have also become. Now from our point of view both wars have been studied and scrutinized very much in-depth. As a Border Guard Jaeger from Kajaani, we especially studied the Battles fought on the Kainuu-Kuusamo frontier.
I actually made some calcultions years ago with an online K/D calculator, and if I recall it correctly Finland in winter war had a total casualty (WIA, KIA and MIA) "K/D" rate of 6, 4 against the Russians. 4, 8 K/D when combining both wars...
