Whatever styles Kooleen redraw, she will always find a way to incorporate the _vampire and smegsy_ qualities 😩💅

Adding blue to shadows make them look less muddy and adding warm tones to highlights make them more saturated and bright. This helped me so much with drawing hair 💕

i really like how the original had acne on their character

Great art, the only thing I can fault out is that she removed the acne, which brought some uniqueness to the OGs oc, and that she changed the pose from biting the peach to a fairly generic one.

I actually learned a lot from this video, and as a beginner drawer, every little bit helps. Thank you so much, Kooleen!

I could be wrong, but adding blue to the shadows makes it look better because it replicates atmospheric lighting. For example, as the sun casts a shadow on an object outdoors, the blue light reflected from the sky turns some parts of the shadow blue-ish.

I like that people add blemishes to their characters, makes them look more natural and relatable. ❤

Honestly Kooleen, ever since I started watching you, you’ve helped me improve so much. But not just that, but you’ve started improving a lot too! Very smegsy art today

I love how Kooleen can refer to anything as juicy and get away with it. Like she could say something like, "Now lets add some JUICY teeth" or "Lets get started on these JUICY fingers" and it just wouldn't be weird

LMAO absolutley love her for that

The reason why the blue on the pink makes your art pop more is because it creates contrast. Examples of contrast are red and blue, black and white, and in your example, pink and blue. Contrast adds difference to the color palette. It consists of one warm color, (red, orange, yellow) and one cool color, (green, blue, purple). Since they are opposites, they pop more on the canvas, and stand out more since it is not only warm colors or not only cool colors. I hope this helps.

the “blue” deep shading in both pieces is just to simulate the type of shadow that reflects onto other shaded items, so rather than the hue going red because it reflects the environment, the deeper shading like in the back of the hair will reflect itself the most and other dark/colorless things (colorless for the lack of light)
when you exaggerate the blue, it looks really pretty. also in general it’s a pretty additional color to add to the color palette.
but in the og art piece the blue is more of a purple-gray or possibly even pink/magenta gray, it only looks blue in contrast to the bright pink and it’s one of my favorite color tricks to use on shading now
