Biden Urges UN to Stand by Ukraine as Allies See Long War Ahead

President Joe Biden urged world leaders to back Ukraine in its war against Russia, even as the country and its allies brace for the prospect of a long-term conflict, in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

“If we allow Ukraine to be carved up, is the independence of any nation secure?” Biden said Tuesday. “The answer is no. We have to stand up to this naked aggression today to deter other would-be aggressors tomorrow.”

“No nation wants this war to end more than Ukraine,” Biden said as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy watched him deliver his address. “Russia alone bears responsibility for this war. Russia alone has the power to end this war immediately. And it’s Russia alone that stands in the way of peace, because Russia’s price for peace is Ukraine’s capitulation, Ukraine’s territory and Ukraine’s children.”

During the day, a video appeared online showing a man in military uniform beating and cursing another man in civilian clothes in a room. It was reported that the video was from a military registration and enlistment office.
Holding an object that looked like a pistol, he allegedly threatened the civilian that they would “throw him in the trunk and bury him.”
He and another man who was secretly filming the incident were told to “get up” and then added that even the police would not look for them.
There were also at least two other men in uniform in the room who did not stop the beating.
In the second video, a man in civilian clothes speaks almost in a whisper to the camera:
“I (name and surname) live here. They are holding me in the TCC. I am from Kharkov. (date of birth). They have been holding me here for the sixth day. I don’t know if they will let me go.
...I can’t talk much. They took the phone. There are a lot of videos on the phone. It's blocked on me. They won't open it. Then I will provide everything: with military quarrels, and so on. Help me please."
In the third video, the same man, who already has blood on his neck and chest, shows to the camera a bloody stain on the wall. He whispers that it is his blood, which should prove that he was really here. According to him, he was beaten that day.

Lest we forget what Ukraine meant to the soviet union--the nearest base for launching nuclear strikes into Europe. Providing aid to ensure Ukraine's freedom is the least expensive defense that EU will have. The other option is fighting on their own borders, if Ukraine falls into Russian control.
