As photographs and testimony in The Ballad of @officialjethrotull demonstrate, and Ian Anderson expands on here, they and Fairport Convention have enjoyed a long and close musical and inter-personnel relationship through the decades.

The Passion Play concert in San Diego was the best concert I ever attended. It was early to mid-1970s. I remember Ian jumping onto the stage in his boots playing the flute and not missing a single note. The organist was spectacular. Jethro Tull was quite good in their live shows. I also liked Fairport Convention from when I first heard them in 1970 and I like Richard Thompson's recent work, too. Both of these bands have clear folk roots, even if some people mistakely view JT as heavy metal. ;^) There is something also progressive about both of these bands if you consider progressive music as rock meant for a more mature audience.

Wow, a night in 1980, I got to see Tull with Dave Pegg I guess, and White snake opened with Coverdale.

In the beginning...The first 3 LPs by Tull had that sound as if coming from some mystical place. Fairport Convention, Pentangle and Renaissance also did and kept it through their existence. Anderson, on the other hand, went berserk.

Next Ian will mention the 'Steeleyes'.

Dave Pegg was touring with Tull in 1979 after John Glascock was ill.

Real talk here. I only signed up for your newsletter because you teased ‘The Children of Bodom book’, and now it has been a couple of years, and I’m starting to wonder whether it will ever happen.

So please tell me straight, is it coming or not?

“Fairports” lol. I wonder if Dave Pegg calls his counterparts “Jethros” or “Tulls”?
