Yui Onodera & Vadim Bondarenko - Cloudscape 8

Показать описание
From Cloudscapes (Serein SERE007).
Cloudscapes merges perfectly the radically different styles from Yui Onodera and Vadim Bondarenko.
The first acts in a microcosmic ambient stage, made of delicate pads and synths loops sprinkled with micro-elements and glitches, while the other comes from a classical environment, not totally unfamiliar with the electronic music though.
What does come out from this collaboration ?
Well, I would describe it as a soundtrack that could masterfully meet an animated film drawn by the Studio Ghibli. Particularly Castle in the Sky or Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind : the delicate and elusive glitched loops from Onodera remind natural landscapes surrounded by wind, air and clouds, while Bondarenko's piano, and here clarinet, represents the organic, earthly side through the wood of these instruments.
In the end, I chose Cloudscape 8 for its sonic fragility. The ethereal clarinet and the lovely synth loop bring to me pictures of an aimless travel in endless blue skies, scattered with big white clouds that we cross every so often. And each time we go through a nebulous wall, the thin condensation hits our skin at the rhythm of the crispy aural background from the Japanese.
And even though Cloudscapes shares the nostalgic side of the Studio Ghibli movies, with this maybe unrealistic hope of a favorable outcome, it definitely exudes the freedom and the fullness they arouse as well.
Beautiful album.
