I'm much more casual now that I'm a widow living alone, but when I was raising my kids I had 3x5 cards on which I had written menus. I had my main dish, my vegetable etc. Each one was a balanced meal. On the back of each card I had all the ingredients that I needed. That way before I did my shopping I could pull out the 3x5 cards I wanted to use that week and just look at the back to see what I needed. It saved me tons of time and brain power and as I started teaching my kids to cook, it made it a lot easier for them, too.

Need routine and consistency!!!
1. Wake up at the same time every day.
2. Write a to-do list.
3. Prioritize (use Covey's urgent vs. important quadrant)
4. Create time and space to be organized every day (review calendar, make lists, schedule tasks, etc.).
5. Declutter your wallet.
6. Give everything you own a place.
7. Use routines.
8. Prepare outfit the night before.
9. Meal planning.
10. Clean your kitchen sink at night.
Great list!!! I'd like to hear if you have any 'year end' tasks to 'finish' up the year with, for example, shred documents, plan major goals for the following year, etc.

Love this! Throwing in a tidbit for those who are owls, not larks: It doesn't have to be 5:15 am. You figure out the schedule that best serves you and your family and be consistent with it.

That sleep schedule is everything. I've had insomnia on and off for forever, and I look back fondly at the short time in my life (job I had/where I was living) where I could fall asleep by 8 and be up at 5 😂❤️

I needed this today! I suffer from depression and for the last year it has become unbearable. I lost all motivation. I don't sleep at night at all but sleep during the day. There has even been times when I have slept for 20+ hours simply because I didn't want to deal with the day. My house became a disaster zone and my poor husband did all he could (while working 10 hour days) to pick up some of the slack. It has been horrible. The strain on my marriage has been horrible. It all came to a head when, for the 1st time ever, I didn't want to decorate for Christmas. I realized that I was self sabotaging and I needed to regain the simple structures that I had let go. I had a plan and now watching your video, I feel excited to implement it! Thank you for the motivation, it helps more than you know. :) Merry Christmas!

THAT'S what I was missing! I need 10 days every morning to sort my To-Do List! 🤣🙌

I’m a firm believer in your clean sink before bed rule - and you are so right, it ends up leading to all sorts of new habits. That clean sink tip is gold.

This video was excellent and just what I needed!!

Sorry for the essay! Just to say it doesn't just apply to women, as being bit of an old-school English, "man's man" 💪😅 so to speak ( even though I'm not old) lol 😅 This is REALLY helpful!
Great stuff!! And I admire your organisation aswell!
Cheers and Best wishes from London England 👍❤️💪😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I agree with you 100%. When the lockdown first started I lost my routine. For the first week or two I fell down the You Tube rabbit hole. I didn’t even brush my teeth or shower. I realized I couldn’t continue this way. I found the Fly Lady’s lists and used them to create a new routine that I still follow. My routine is very similar to the one you follow.

I'm a complete and unorganized slob. I've tried so many different cleaning programs books and online groups to become a cleaner more organized person and ive just never been able to stick to anything longer then a week. Last month I watched your 3 things video. And I said well Ill try to clean my sink every night and just focus on that. I dont force myself to be perfect about it, but I at least work on it each night. I have to say its been over a month now since I started and its helped me so much. Having a reasonably straightened kitchen every morning has really helped inspire me to tackle the rest of my house as well. I even bought a roomba to help with the work load. The clean sink rule really has inspired me to get my house so much better. I've still got a long way to go but I so beyond appreciate that you've opened a doorway of sorts to help me get my house under control.

The thing with deciding what to eat every day is SO true!!! Really overwhelming, and now I understand better than ever why my mom was cooking us the same meals over and over again. But I admire your little kids for sleeping all night and letting mom and dad have some rest 👏👏👏👏 totally not my reality.

Super advice. A good old rule to live by: "A place for everything and everything in its place." Also, when I make a To-Do list I alternate must-dos (like cleaning the litter box) with things I really love doing, like sewing or crochet.

Because I'm ADHD and OCD, "to-do", "goals", etc., make my brain shut I sat down and wrote down words and phrases that don't make my brain completely shut down.
I came up with (drum roll please):
PLAN OF ATTACK (S)
THAT is how I got my brain to NOT shut down with the things I Need to get done for the day, week, or month.
YAY ME!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳😂

I have meal planned for a very long time, but as the schedule got more hectic, I did not assign meals to days. It allowed me more flexibility. I had the ingredients on hand and could pick from the list of meals which would work better that day. The key point which is presented is to have those decisions mostly made. Love your future self and give her a hand!

I follow so much of this advice on a daily basis. When I make my list and then I find I did something that was not on the list, I will actually take the time to write it on the list and cross it off. Psychologically it makes me feel productive, like I'm getting more done. For years, I have also laid out my outfit the night before. One less thing to think about in the morning. I love all my routines, but do allow myself to take advantage of spontaneity. My routines really keep me on track and sane during my busy days. Great video!

I don't follow every single advice, like I refuse to get up at 5:15 in the morning, however, habits like meal planning, emptying the sink and dishwasher before going to bed and so has been such a game changer for my boyfriend and I. He has seen how organised I have become and has getting inspiration to get more organised himself

I try to cook meals that would last for 3 days. I don't mind leftovers and this free up a lot of time when I get home from work at 7 p.m.

You are always uplifting & encouraging. I used to have a place for almost everything. Life changes. We now live on a small farm & have snow 5 mos of the year. My priorities fluxuate between home, livestock & outside chores. Every time I get discouraged, you have another video that speaks to me. Thank you.

I have a regular sleeping pattern from 4:30 to 11:30. It works really well for me. I'm a teacher and I startet to work at night school, bc I just couldn't wake up early for regular school. I was SO productive in Uni when I could generate my own schedule. I was barely graduating High School, bc I was always tired. So I once again became tired all the time when I started to teach at a regular school. I couldn't think of anything other than going home and sleep again. Evening school was the best decision I made in my grown-up life. Some people are just not made to wake up early. It has nothing to do with creating habits. Sometimes you just have to listing to what your body needs.
