How to focus binoculars properly

Find out how to adjust your binoculars for the sharpest, best quality images.

Transcript:

There are two ways of focussing your binoculars:

First, the central focus wheel. When you turn this, it focusses both barrels of your binoculars. Turn the wheel all the way in one direction, then point the binoculars at something you want to look at, then turn the wheel back until the image sharp

Then there's the diopter focus wheel. Now this focusses the right barrel of the binoculars so you can adjust for any differences between your eyes.

If you're wearing glasses that already correct these differences, you don't need to make an adjustment, you just leave the diopter in its central position.

If you do need to use the diopter, close your right eye and get the image focussed for your left eye. Then close your left eye and use the diopter to make the same image just as sharp for your right eye.

You only need to do this once, unless you're sharing binoculars of course.

This helped, thank you. I have a very old but very good quality pair of binoculars but I'm still having difficulties in that I'm still seeing double vision. I don't know what I'm doing wrong!

I have a cheap pair of binoculars and the right eye focus rotates but doesn't actually move the lens back or forth..
The hardest part is moving the image from O O into a single O without having black rubber obscuring the view 🙂

Good but also maybe add that you need to pull out eye rests if not wearing glasses.

Also, decide the distance that you are gonna use and put in focus the max distance. With just that try to find the focus of differente thing at different distances with your own eyes. With a little practice you will unlock "autofocus"
It can make you a little dizzy at first, specially in close distances, but it is awesome once you learn it. It takes 5 minutes and you will stop depending on your focus wheel for everything.

Is that or I just have a superpower.

Now what if I’m using them to take a picture of the moon and am only using one eye piece? Should I use the right one ?

and unless you are changing the range of vision to look at something farther or closer

This makes no sense. You adjust the diopter for one eye and change the diopter adjustment for the other eye, thus cancelling out the first adjustment.
