With the Moto Memes 2-stroke purse for the Washougal National coming up, I’ve been putting in my motos on the 1984 YZ80 😂 Some of you were concerned I was only training on the moped. Who’s ready to hear some 2-strokes singing out at Washougal?!

I had the 82 yz80. Some of the best days of my life spent in the woods of Pennsylvania and the corn and soy fields . My buddy had exact same model and it was like we had our drivers license and transportation (the bikes) at 13-14 years old. Great days. The 80cc bikes were fast as you can see by one in this video. A good rider could hang with bigger bikes if he kept 'er RUNG OUT!

I learned to ride on dirt with a 1981 YZ 80 and I still remember the sound, one of my best moments on motorcycles.

Pound for pound the YZ 80 and YZ 85 were in my opinion the best bikes for getting into the sport, sharpening your skills during off season, and best overall play bike ever built. You could beat the snot out of them and they kept right on going. I had CRs and KXs that exploded doing what he is doing right here, but my YZs always hung in there.

I bought my kid a 2003 YZ 85 for his first MX bike and he brutalized that thing day in and day out for 3.5 years on the new topend that had been installed by the dealership just two weeks before I bought it. When I sold it after almost 4 seasons of punishing track and woods riding it still started on the second kick every time and would rip the front wheel through the first 3 gears sitting on the tank. Super solid machines.

I had an 86 yz80. Took it down to the frame and rebuilt it. The powerband on that bike was insane. I got it for the kids. It proved to be too much for them. I had a 92 cr500 that I rode at that time. I would take that yz80 for the day and that thing would wheelie in any gear. Just pure fun to ride.

The wheelie through the acceleration bumps. Minty.

I had an 87 CR80 and moved to the country as a teen. Ate, drank, breathed motorcycles. If we weren’t riding we were shoveling. I would wake up early and ride with my buddies before the school bus came. Anyone remember crusty demons of dirt 😉👍🏾

IMHO, the best 80 of the 1980's. I remember it very well along with it's bigger brothers the 125 and 250.

This brings me back to when I bought my first race bike. I was 16. My parents hated the idea of me racing or even riding dirt bikes. I bought a Yz 125 race bike that was 10 years older then every other bike on the gate. I was sooo nervous…I the 5 second card turned sideways…I revved the bike up. Shifted into SECOND gear. And when that gate dropped the bike took off…I got the hole shot. In my first race on a clapped out 10 year old race bike lol

My Daughter is 15 and absolutely LOVES her little 2007 YZ85 we have upgraded some things to it hear and there, when her friends want to go riding and they are on quads she takes her Bike 99% of the time. Im sorta proud she wanted a Dirt Bike even though we have a couple 4 Wheelers she could ride as well. 😁
