Remember, lift with your firefighter, not your back

There's a reason EMS don't get calenders, fire boys just built for it

Called EMS for my mom and just before they arrived she lost control of her bowls and shit everywhere, I cleaned her up before they arrived. I was not going to let her be embarrassed. She passed away that night.

FF: "More poop?"
EMT: "Worse, patient had a bad rectal bleed so there is bloody poop everywhere."

I was in an ambulance when they pulled over to help a guy on the side of the road covered in ants dying from an opioid overdose. He lived but it was interesting hearing them radio that they needed to fire department to come out and hose the guy off so that another ambulance could pick him up. Then, they called me a hero for giving them permission to stop and immediately gave me a warm blanket when we got to the hospital. That blanket was the highlight of the whole trip.

My brother became a fire fighter before I went to school for it a week before joining I asked him how rough it is. He said fires are cool he's fine with it but he fucking hates how often he has to help some drunk or dumbass that shit himself or someone that just can't even walk. He said I became a fire fighter to be a fire fighter not to be a mobile lifting machine

As a firefighter, this is 100% accurate

As far as poop goes as a home health worker I had a person once that had C Diff. My company neglected to tell me that. Of course I wear gloves but when I was cleaning or cooking them food I didn’t. What I didn’t know was they were in a wheelchair they used their hands to pull themselves along the kitchen counters to get to the bathroom. I’d have stayed gloved up if I knew they had C Diff. After I contracted C Diff from them I personally know how bad it can be and I had to stay close to the bathroom the entire time I took antibiotics for it. I could completely understand the frustration they had with never making it to the bathroom. I’d help them shower and not 20 minutes later I’d be running pushing their wheelchair as fast as I could to the bathroom so they could go again. I empathized with them for sure but I never ever want to go through that again.

Years ago, my leg...i still don't know what happened? But hey, i got complex regional pain syndrome out of it, Yay?
Anyway, i live in a (nice) basement apartment. They couldn't get a gurney around the corner at the bottom of thy stairs, and my leg was basically folded in half and would NOT straighten. They eventually called the fire department who put me in this canvas thing, it was actually mortifying (i weighed 160, or i would have felt even worse about bothering anyone)

Years later, turns out the thing going on that day was a ruptured intestine. The paramedics - who'd been here ONCE, six years prior, REMEMBERED me. Not just basics - one of them *remembered the book i had been reading*, and kept me awake by asking about how it ended, the sequel, etc. ONE VISIT

You all are magic (i say a someone whose mother was a nurse, then a NP, then CA Red cross NP who went on disaster relief... paid less by have to know most of the same stuff and do more physical everything? Yeesh, i couldn't do it even before i became disabled...)

💯 Facts when fire is called for lift they are always either naked or covered in fieces or have had an ACCIDENT on them selves. 😂😂

The traditional brown uniform of the firefighter must start out as white and get colored in from each call.
