Restaurants have taken a serious hit from the COVID-19 pandemic, whether they be locally owned or nationally franchised, and restaurants that were already struggling have seen their problems grow exponentially. Among these is Steak n’ Shake, which has had plenty of ups and downs over the years, but was already at a down before the pandemic started. Fans of the chain have still been able to get their food, but they weren’t able to dine in the restaurants, and now the company has revealed some sad news. Let’s take a look at the sad news that Steak n’ Shake just announced for its fans.

The quality has been declining for years. This was just the last straw.

As a former Steak N Shake general manager, I can tell you it is not covid related. It is poor business practices and leadership from the district level and up. We would have loved to provide a better service and product but out hands were tied all in the name of greed.

I LOVE steak 'n shake but the customer service is HORRIBLE. You wait 20-30 min for a FAST FOOD meal. The shakes are still amazing but management doesn't care about its customers.

I live in Illinois. I've experienced MANY meals at several different S&S restaurants for 30 years. But after about the year 2000, I've NEVER seen a company hire so many uncaring/unqualified outright nasty employees. I guess they had some sort of unwritten "We'll hire any ex-convict/Crackhead with an attitude" policy. R.I.P. Steak And Shake. I'll remember the many good times post 2000's era. It was fun!

I don't know about all of them but the one by my house closed because lazy worthless employees rather play grab ass then do their job that their getting paid for.

I was excited when steak n shake started expanding into Calif. Upon my first visit to a new Calif store, I immediately realized that this was a dumbed-down version of the steak n shake that I was used to in the midwest. The beef burgers were nearly flavorless compared to midwest stores. Conversely, when I have tried new In n Out Burger stores in Texas, the same quality of freshness and beef flavor was found as in the original Calif stores. Chick Fil A has also maintained quality and flavor as it expands in Calif. Lesson: don't expand unless quality and flavor can match the original and be consistently maintained.

Hmmm, Steak n Shake was going out of business prior to Coronavirus, the virus just officially nailed the hammer in the coffin ✌🏽. I did like their hotdogs 😎

The food was really good then they started making their burgers really small like McDonald's is doing now the shakes are great

I work at a Steak N Shake and mine is franchised. We aren’t closing AT ALL, probably ever. But I don’t know when they will let us servers back. It really sucks because I need to work. Drive-thru, line workers, cooks, management, and the fountain workers are working but us servers have no hours. My state (Florida) is reopening restaurant dining rooms but my Steak n Shake is still not opening the dining room. I don’t want to be in harms way but I’d really like to start working again.

I worked for Steak N Shake back in the early 80's for a year and a half in the maintenance dept. going around the stores fixing broke stuff. One of the benefits was free meals, unlimited. I used to eat there 2-4 times a day. Chili 3 ways and a triple cheese burger and a chocolate shake !

They were having issues before the COVID-19...The one closet too me always had employee turnover and slow serves. Many times they would be closed, because they didn't have enough staff!!!

The last 10 years this place has been going downhill. In another 10 years, it will be gone

If I had better service like not waiting 10 min for a table, actually getting a refill, and not get undersized patties maybe I’d come back. Until then, I’ll happily make my own smash burgers.
