Yeah, we are born with inalienable rights...hmmm...not. The right to marry the person we choose, the right to own our own intellectual products, to own land, to be educated, to vote, to serve in the military, to work and receive the same pay, and lastly the very right to be free and prosper, all had to be fought for irregardless of our contributions to this society.😢.

Remember this was in your parents and grandparents time. Don't think that it was a long time ago.

She was the one imprisoned. They also had children. She had to leave the state of Virginia with her children for a year or so until the Supreme Court ruling. What a country!

A lot of states pushed back by refusing to fully cooperate initially and making people jump through hoops. First interracial couple (also White Man + Black woman) to marry in Alabama after the 1967 decision got married in 1970. Other states fell in line more around this time.

My mother is older than the loving case. It’s crazy to think interracial marriage wasn’t fully effectively protected until basically the 70s. Only barely over 50 years ago. Eldest southern relative I have is 106 rn. She spent just under half her life living in a country where interracial marriage was outlawed in so many places.

I’m still in my twenties rn so looking at this amount of time In relation to my elder’s lifespan makes me realize how ridiculously LONG it took for this to pass
