What people dont realize is that you get better as time passes. Who else get upset because their parents are "soft" on their siblings? Most of the time, grandparents will give your children what they could never give you.

Homer's mother abandon her family after doing illegal things to fight Mr.Burns. So Abe isn't exactly a bad father he was just a broken man who was raising his son alone. He did make up for it by selling his home just so homer can buy a house for his family.

My dad always used to tell me how bad a dad he had. How Grandpa was always at the bar after work and never really spent time with my dad and his sister. It's really hard to believe that the loving grandpa I know was that bad of a dad to mine.

It is important to remember that Abe may have had been a bad father, but it's also important to remember he was Homer's. Only true parent after his mother did illegal things to fight Mr. Burns and ran away
