this new mac pro is looking pretty legit and it would be interesting to see how well the new cooling would work. this might be able to solve a major dust problem without filters also looking at the rather spaced all in one heatsink, but this whole cylinder design seems like another way to charge +1000$ to a similar spec pc

Actually the form is a major part of the function in terms of cooling. Cooling is a MAJOR consideration especially considering the power of the processors and graphics cards it has in it which will generate a lot of heat.

Agreed with your points wholeheartedly. This is why i believe the older MP is superior. On the double GPU thing, yes that's already supported by Premiere, you can already set up CrossFire or SLI setups on current Mac Pros and it's more in the GPU firmware than computer software.

Not that the single heatsink is anything new, but I like how they implemented the concept here.

The best feature about it is the size. And with that much power in a package that small, I'd expect this thing to be approaching 7-10 thousand dollars fully loaded. For that kind of money . . . You could slap a Tesla K20 in a PC . . .

I was dissapointed at first glance, but after giving it a thought I think it's awesome. Finally in 20 years a radical change in industrial design for Pro pc's, thats just epic. Not too fond of the cylindric enclosure but I like the futuristic, abstract "what the hell is that thing" mysterious kind of feel of it. and 7 teraflops in an 9, 9" by 6, 5" cylinder is just insane.

Fast forward a few years and the old Mac Pro will really start looking it's age and the new Mac Pro will be the cool tool.

The 2013 Mac Pro might not be the most practical solution for many right now but don't forget that computers are a combination of hardware and software. So as the software matures and standardizes around the hardware it will become logical and enabling technology for a new generation.
