Trying to build community is so important. Building a woo-free community is so important. Reason based thinking can be hard, but it's so needed.

My old church was a constant refrain of science-denial and gay-hatred, rinse-wash-repeat, week after week. Secular community is infinitely more empowering and uplifting. Can we thrive without religion? Are we truly thriving *with* religion?

Every person you have contact with, affects who and what you are. Extending that, every person that those people interacted with affected who they were, and by extension affects you. Extending that, every person ever born has affected who and what each of us have become. It is therefore up to us to ensure that how we affect others is positive and encouraging.

Let's celebrate helping each other in SPITE of organizations that require at least a public declaration of aligning with belief systems in order to receive help. Our organization is secular by design. It has cost us in support of religious organizations, because we won't post their materials, so we really need the secular community to help us as religious people help their organizations.

The importance of individual responsibility & accountability is removed through religious practices, by basing it upon non realistic assumptions about reality. We could do without that & replace it with more mature approaches.
