I've purchased over 100 reptiles and amphibians on Craigslist. Today, I give you all of the tips I have when it comes to finding, contacting, meeting up, staying safe, and ensuring you get exactly what you want from a pet reptile on Craigslist. It's a great way to avoid supporting stores or breeders with questionable ethics, and you're able to help out an animal in need.

I tried to get 2 bettas off craiglists a couple weeks ago. The seller was a bloody idiot, she kept them in a pickle jar with no filter and she'd starve them for weeks. She was asking for 50 dollars. I was super polite and did my best to accommodate her but in the end I just reported her to my local humane society for abuse (fish are protected in my state). It was so infuriating.

Always bring a friend or family member, ask for pics, be sure you’re not being overcharged, and for the love of god, look out for backyard breeder red flags! These include: “rehoming” babies, pictures of many babies, more expensive animals, excessive use of the word rehoming, etc

Though if you are bying a puppy/juvinile/etc. i would say always go to house. You never know if it´s a puppymil. All breeders club say that never ever buy a baby from parking lot
