Sony RX100: Why I bought the Mark IV Instead of the Mark V

Sony's RX100 line of cameras is phenomenal and has been the benchmark for all pocket cameras since the original launch. However, the M5 is no significant upgrade from the M4, perhaps an update in the amount of time you can record 4K would be more appreciated.

Excellent review. I splurged on purchasing this camera the day it came out. It debuted at $999 USD, the price that the Mark IV was selling at. In turn, the Mark IV did drop to $899 USD, and I've seen more deals in the weeks since then. I do love this camera, but previous generations probably would have suited me just as well.

I agree with this assessment. Especially if you already have the M4, there's really very little on the M5 to encourage an upgrade at that price point.

The autofocus on the mark v is worth. Works great if your using on a gimbal and you cant deal with focus issues.

solid review man. I am still rocking my Mark II for similar reasons. When i travel you take pictures of things far away and the mark 2 has the biggest lens of the bunch at 28-100 mm. for this reason alone i keep my Mark II as my main shooter next to my galaxy s6

Got my Mark V for new. Part of a freight recovery sale of a truck that was rolled over. (insurance). I have had a Mark it was stolen along with my car. For $600 US, this was a no brainer.
The Mark 4 was the Mark 5 is just a bit better especially at $600 US.

Excellent advice though. If I had a Mark 4, I would not upgrade to the 5.

It's not subtle, the auto-focus enhancement is really a dealbreaker, especially since there's no touch screen and manual focus is pretty much a hassle!

Owners of the RX100 iv i have a question. When you look at the display in the lower left corner, is there a white little spot looking somehow like a sensor on mobile phone? It’s really small. Can one check this out? Else i have to exchange my new bought device.

wow very good and clear review.i have the rx100 mk3 and in 2019 still considering the 4. i know the 5 n 6 have overheating issues in 4k .does the 4 ? i haven't yet found a better camera that does what rx line does. any help would be grateful.cheers gizmo
