The smells of the evergreen forest were softened by the layers of snow. Instead the off tempo crunches of my boots leaving imprints behind me. The sounds were not synchronized with my steps as I passed between shafts of light. The grey trunks showed off their rust highlights as they split the early morning sunlight. Motes of snow landed on my shoulder only for me to brush them off.
They landed on the coals only to sizzle into steam, puffs of smoke rising from the crackles of overnight flames. I crouched for a moment before brushing off a spot on the fallen tree to take a seat.
My breath condensed in front of me as my fingers brushed the cold strings of the guitar leaning on the log. The sound of sharp notes cut the cold, only for me to look upwards into the foliage dropping snowflakes above me. The snowfall had stopped at some point in the night but that didn’t stop the snow from falling onto me.
The glance to the heavens made my peripherals catch something new, something casting a shadow longer than the trees. I stood up and turned, purple, blue sparkling glimpses between waving tips of trees.
I stopped at the edge of the forest, the immediate display of the shadows cause pausing my steps. Passing through the spires were waves of indigo light wrapped into the shape of a dragon. Emitting from the wings were sparkles of star light burning off from the early morning light. A shadow made of an aurora of light dominating the sky.
