If you're looking for a permanent fix this is how you do it. In the custom settings menu go to ( f Controls>  f6 Customize command dials>  Aperture setting> select Aperture ring and press ok. This allows the camera to communicate with the manual aperture ring. Now you can use all of your f-stops. Hope this helps!

if your camera fell and you get this error, one of the probable problems is that the ring sensor is bron}ken, it is a very thin and delicate stip that can break easily, as happenes}d with my D7000
