Hi Don, I really like the Maple species.  I plan on planting a Maple tree along my street, which has a 6' x 10' area.  I really like the Sugar Maple, but you indicated it does not do well in trafffic/salty situations.  Can I use the Red Maple instead, or would you recommend something else.  We had a Norway Maple which died, so I am looking for a replacement.  In fact, most of the Norway's along our street are infected with some kind of fungus.  Thanks for your useful information.

can a red maple be successfully grown in phoenix, az zone 9b or is it way too hot here?
