I meant it, it was a struggle choosing between the 16mm and 56mm. But ending with the 30mm isn’t something I will regret.

Loving every minute with it. So excited to be able to try the other two as well.

My 3 lenses for my a6400. Sony 16-50 OSS, Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sigma 56mm. Pretty much covers everything for me.

Thank you for that review. As the owner of both the 30mm and the 16mm Sigma, I would have to agree with your comment about the 30mm providing the most realistic view. This is why I chose the 30mm 0ver the 16mm for my first apsc lens.

I had initially chosen the 30mm over the 16mm for its field view and lifelike perspective. The ability to keep the subject and all lines as straight and correct as possible (at least in most instances) is very important to me and the 30mm was the best choice for that (in combination with my A6400).

Nevertheless having watched all the videos I craved the 16mm 1.4 and ended up purchasing it approximately ten months after I purchased the 30mm. I do enjoy using my 16mm now, but what this purchase essentially did was to reinforce the notion that the 30mm is a must have lens, and the best lens choice where there is only one budget option.

I have always thought how nice it would be to have the minimal distortion characteristic of the 30mm and the wider field of view of the 16mm. Well, there is and this is why I am now obsessed with anamorphic lenses. Unfortunately in my situation, there are no autofocus anamorphic lenses for my A6400 and no anamorphic lenses with that beautiful f1.4 nine blade aperture.

This guy convinced me to pair this with my a6400, my first ever camera! $700 body only, with the 30mm for $300, good deal?

I spent quite a bit of time comparing the Sigma 30 1.4 with the Sony 35 1.8. In my own evaluation I found them to be equal in sharpness, but the Sony 35 has OSS which I found to be the differentiating factor. I got more well focused images with the 35 1.8 than the Sigma. The sony 35mm 1.8 is also quite a bit smaller and lighter than the Sigma 30mm 1.8. However the Sony lens is quite a bit more expensive.

I have the Sigma trio and there is no question the 56mm 1.4 is one of the best lenses money can buy. The 16mm 1.4 is a great lens too. But the Sigma 30 was the least-best of the three. I finally sold the Sigma 30mm 1.4.

Another factor is the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 can be used at 30mm and it matches the performance of the sigma 30mm prime quite well. So with multiple lenses that cover the 30mm range quite well I just had to sell the 30mm 1.4.

I have the 16mm and seriously thinking about grabbing this one. That price makes it super tempting. I think it'll give me that tighter shot I like for talking head segments.

The 45mm Focal range is a really good universal range as well. Nice vid.

You’re videos are awesome! I was between the 56 and the 30. Now I see that the 30 is more versatile for my needs.

I totally agree with you with regards to the focal length. I also use the a6400, and the lens that stays on my camera most of the time is the Sony 35 mm F 1.8 OSS. Pretty close to what you're using. Especially for filmmaking, I could definitely live with this lens all the time. I also have the 16-50 kit lens if I really need the wide-angle, and I have the Sony 55 to 210 which I love, but 35mm (52 on my camera) is an awesome way to work. Especially since it works so well on my Crane M2. WinWin. Awesome video as always. Thanks for sharing.

Good points. I'm getting this lens soon. Probably, the only con about it is the lack of weather sealing. But that's not the end of the world.
