Couldn’t ask for a better presentation of the current shields. Excellent balance of comprehensive and condensed. Thanks for the quality content!

Should mention that its hard to parry when i.e. 4 wolves are chasing you, you can parry 1st one but the rest might get you, thats why I play with atgeir most of the time because it has the same block armor as a buckler but when things get to serious I like having a normal or even a tower shield with me as well

Good video, but you should have demonstrated how tower shields are meant for when you have multiple targets in you. With a buckler, you can’t party with multiple targets, so you’re going to die. This is why around shields are an excellent mix when playing solo and you have more than 1 mob attacking.

I would like to mention, bucklers seem to be faster to raise than round shields, even if just a small amount.

Honestly in my opinion i just like to mindlessly be able to block attacks which is why i like the tower shield but i see why people would like the buckler or medium shield as parrying can be very useful but can you parry bosses?

Round shield is the undisputed goat for casual players. Still has decent parry power but still very useful for traditional blocks against large groups of enemies

I think in most 1v1 scenarios buckler is good. But if you're getting swarmed by multiple enemies in rapid succession, tower is better, most especially due to the knockback.. It creates more space between you and the attackers, enabling you to zone them, which is also very valuable in group play. Also the higher block mastery you have the more mileage you get out of tower shields.

The round shields are the best when playing on a multiplayer server with some latency. You can still parry well but also block reliably if you miss the parry.

Basically as i always said when playing Valheim IF you have high ping go for Tower shield because it is harder to parry due to desyncing and trying to parry can lead to a easy death. If you have good ping go for best parry bonus cuz don't have to worry about blocking if it take 3x damage if you have MULTIPLE people playing (like my current playthrough we have 6 but 1 is away for family so really 5) be diverse....we hvae 1 magic person, our host (who obviously has best ping its his server) goes for the parry build, A different friend is full Tower shield defensive build (has max serpent shield atm) and myself mainly as Archer / come in for quick hits then bail and last friend is basically pure archer.

Round shield is the most versatile in them all. Small shield lack the armor if you failed to parry a seeker you'll get staggered and most likely die. Round shield is really for me the best. With the same mspd reduction as the small shield might as well go for the safer choice than the flashy one that can get you killed when a mob of seeker attacks you. Especially the one star seeker accopanied by its buddies.

I've never been a big fan of tower shields, but when I first went into the Mistlands I found myself crafting one because the seekers were hitting me so hard it would regularly stagger me.

I was quite fond of the serpent shield for a long time. However, once I started trying different combos, and learned to parry, I'll never go back. Parry is king.

I use tower shields all the time. they are perfect for taking boss hits. If you just want to block damage then the tower shield is king. if you want to get good parry's and have decent block then go for buckler. Tower shields are good for blocking and the movement penalty is moot since you not gonna need to move much if your blocking anyway and out of combat you can de-equip your shield for full movement. I never use bucklers or normal shields.

I do tend toward round shields for if things get dicy with multiple enemies. Otherwise I would stick with the bucklers.

Do you think this has been true when it comes to Boss Fights? And if so, do you think it still RINGs true in Asslands update? Please comment below to find out more about this and see if you are right in our upcomming guide... jk... but being a monotone voiced person myself I had to throw in a zinger.

I just crafted the cool bone shield and wondered why I can't parry. What a waste! It already slows me down more than a normal shield would...
