Brief Political History of Trinidad and Tobago

This video explores the basics of Trinidadian history and politics to explain how two distinct islands erstwhile claimed by the Spanish and poor became a rich english-speaking country. It goes through its long period of colonization from Columbus to the day the Queen saw Trinidad become independent in 1962. It covers from Eric Williams to Keith Rowley and the attempted 1990 coup.

I like how in every country's history when they abolished slavery they suddenly have a "shortage problem" so they have to bring people from other countries to do the work... Why not be up front? Clearly they just did not want to pay the people who were once slaves. They would rather continue the oppression.

I live in Trinidad and I have to say...nice job, dude! BTW, it is also said that Columbus named Trinidad after the three hills in Moruga which he saw when sailing round the southern perimeter of the island. Even today, the hills are called the Trinity Hills.

The indigenous people of Trinidad and Tobago did not disappear but lived on in modern Trinidad and Tobago peoples. Similar to how the neanderthal blood still runs in many Europeans despite having gone extinct. The people of Trinidad are a mix of African, indo, Chinese, and European, although there are distinctly African and indo descent peoples.
