I decided to build my own kitchen cabinets from scratch as a total beginner. In this episode, I'm sharing how I built the "carcasses" (worst term ever for the outer boxes) and face frames for the base cabinets.

OMG, Casey. You are my she-ro!! You are courageous, tenacious, and pretty damn smart. I can hardly wait to see the kitchen finished.

I just cannot get over every aspect of how you’ve approached these projects! I really think the spatial skills we learn in sewing are applicable to woodworking too. You are a BEAST!!!

You have done a great job at showing how you can build face framed cabinets with not a lot of fancy tools. Great job!

Go Casey Go. You are one gifted woman. Your architectural training has translated to sewing and now cabinetry. It is a gift to be able to see in 3D My sister could do it but I just couldn't, but I try at least. Thanks for posting.

You are a very talented lady!! I’ve done a lot of sewing and a little woodworking. I’d never attempted what you are doing. I know one thing for sure though. With wood you don’t have to worry about coming back the next day and the wood shrinking or growing overnight! 😂

Really very impressive Casey that you’ve taken the time to learn how to do this and believed in yourself sufficiently to give it a go. People often say to me that they could never sew their own clothes but I really believe that if you’re willing to invest the time and practice it’s amazing what we can achieve. Most of our grandparents or great grandparents had all sorts of practical skills that we’ve been conditioned not to learn any more.

I never knew making cabinets could actually be that straightforward. I know the measurements can be tricky but you showed the thought process and explained it really well. I can not wait for the next video. I could have watched a 2 hour video of you building these cabinets and not have been bored for a second. You Rock!!! 💕💕

Like everyone else, I had NO doubts that you could do this! And I loved hearing Alanis at the end 😉👍❤️

I love this so much! You should have said I DID build my cabinets. I knew you could do it, I watched xo McCenna do her whole kitchen and you’re a smart lady.

Casey, you are such an inspiration for me. You are truly gifted in the “diy skills” but also are willing to put the work in! Your channel is my favorite: from sewing to reno and building furniture. You do such quality work, congrats! 😊

You are an absolutely brave woman 👍🏽👏🏽👍🏽. I love every "fixer upper" series, you've made so far. In these times, where you can buy everything to take the easy road, it is a delight to see someone trying to do it yourself.
I did it 7 years ago after I got the family home handed over from my mother. It needed to be renewed from the core. I did everything myself, except the central heating system and the connection of my electric to the power grid. Greetings from Germany 😊

Interesting. When I heard you say that you wanted to (were going to) build cabinets, I figured you were going to do a fabulous job. You've got such a "go for it" attitude, and are methodical in your approach, I can't wait to see the cabinets. Already know that they'll be great!
I made a headboard for my daughter years ago, using a Singer book. I needed to have plywood cut and found a local carpenter. He said that one of the projects he was working on was installing a custom spiral wooden staircase in the home of the client. I asked him how he got started, he told me that he borrowed a book about woodworking from the library.

You're amazing! I learn so much from you. I appreciate your sense of style, your ambitious DIY attitude, your attention to detail and, of course, your finished result. BEAUTIFUL!! Thx for sharing.

You go girl!! I am a wood turner and I can do alot of things but I don't think I would be brave enough to build my own kitchen cabinets. I also love the fact that your husband doesn't stand over you and tell you how to do it. That's what my husband does but he doesn't know what he is talking about usually. I am much more of a hands on and fixit gal than he is. You are one brave girl. Good luck and making the drawers. Also, put in pull out shelves for your pots and pans. That is the best upgrade ever.

You are awesome, Casey! I am full of admiration for you. For the first kitchen I installed in our house, I assembled all the cabinets myself and my builder just fixed them in place and put on the counter tops. Fast forward 30 years... A few months ago my husband and I spent an entire afternoon assembling just one IKEA flat pack cupboard (admittedly it had concertina doors, but still...) and the amount of head scratching and undoing what we'd already done was pitiful! We've both made many flat pack items over the years, but as we've got older we've found the toll on our backs has got progressively worse. What we save on construction costs we spend on visits to the osteopath! 😐 After this latest experience we've decided our DIY days are behind us. In future we'll pay to get them delivered fully assembled 🤷‍♀️

Your cabinets are much more solid than they would be buying them at a big box store. 👍

Awesome! This is the first of your videos I've seen, but will be checking out others. Your delivery is great and I appreciate you not editing out scenes when you realize you made a goof. Keep up the great work!

Whoever thought a person that designs patterns could not build their own custom cabinets has no idea how exacting pattern design and creativity to ‘build’ the design all falls together. Go Casey, go! She is very smart, looks at the end result she wants and then like any great sewist and designer sets about to create exactly what they want. Cutting exact pieces, putting them together, and wallah there you go. Perfect! I, like other people on this video, totally have faith in Casey.
