A good friend ... one he met while they were both in a hospital (Suzanne) lost her struggle with mental health & committed suicide. "I always thought that I'd see you, again." ♡

Carole King wrote "You've Got a Friend" in response to this. Great song, and James asked if he could record it.

"You've Got a Friend" is probably one of his biggest hits

Thank goodness you were in a good mood to start your reaction, Jayy. "Fire and Rain" is definitely a very sad song. Hearing it always takes me back to the seventies, sometimes drawing tears. And yes, you were right, it's about drugs and suicide. Taylor was addicted to heroin for a time, so his body ache describes his withdrawal pains. And his friend committed suicide while he was away in England. So ...

"Shower the People" and "Your Smiling Face" were also big hits for JT.

“Won't you look down upon me, Jesus?”

“my body aching” (He’s “dope sick”)

A desperate plea for help. The pain is too much.

Love James Taylor. What a great singer songwriter. His style is more folk rock. I grew up with his music & had some of his records. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Some other hits were "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Handy Man", "Sweet Baby James", "Carolina in My Mind", "Shower the People" & "Your Smiling Face". He was married at one time to Carly Simon. They had a few duets together including "Mockingbird" & "Devoted to You".

GREAT James Taylor song about a friend he lost to drugs and mental health issues while he himself was dealing with drug abuse. Amazing writing.

I never would have survived the 70s without James Taylor.

I've been a huge fan of James Taylor for a long time. He is like a fine wine and gets better with age. Great reaction.

This is a song of his that I have come back many times over the years when I was struggling, both with addiction and also the loss of family and friends. The backstory of this song is while he was in recovery in a rehab there was someone who was close to him who died. His friends decided not to tell him because they didn't want to go off of his path with his recovery. So they waited until he came out of the rehab and was on more stable ground and then they let them know. So this is the song that he wrote about her. I come back to the song a lot because but one time I had 10 years clean but then I lost it. But now, next year will make my 20th year that I'm clean from narcotics. I always tell ppl but I got more dead friends than I have live ones. Honestly that is the truth because many of them didn't make it because of our lifestyle. Not just because of the drugs but also because some of my friends were murdered. So whenever I get too deep into my head, I always turn this song on it's kinda level me out some. You really need to check out a lot of his music because it's really wonderful. Rest in Peace to all those lost in the fight to addiction and lost to elements surrounding the lifestyle, you're not forgotten. XO ❣️ #NYGenXBIKERLady

You seem like a lovely person. Your response was touching, and you really felt the song. Thank you for this.

A fun and upbeat song is Mockingbird with James Taylor and his wife Carly Simon. (They did get divorced) If you do react to it I would recommend the video of them singing it live.

You have to listen to "You've Got a Friend" in response to this. It was written by Carole King, who handed it to James Taylor to record.

"but I always though that I'd see you, baby, one more time again." Heartbreaking lyrics, because we have all felt that way about someone (or many)

P.S. This is your channel/site! Say what you want, what you feel! If people get upset, they can leave or get over it! You are a kind hearted person!
