I bought one for 42 euros on Ebay without even knowing does it work, without battery and without sensor cover, sensor was dirty (somebody touched it).... When I received it, I bought a battery and I took it to service for sensor cleaning, it turned out it's sensor was in impeccable condition and shutter count was around only 700. Basically new camera! Now I'm building my TTartisan prime lenses collection and I bought M42 adapter for old lenses. Magic photos!!!! It's an amazing camera! You don't need fortune to make top photos and I know this because I owned $3-4K bodies before.

Unless you find it super cheap, the a5100 is going to be a much, much better option. It might look like an iterative upgrade but the sensor and processor upgrade from the 5000 to 5100 is monumental.

The 5100 has the sensor from the a6000 and the first bionz processor transplanted into it. The sensor and processor tech in these were monumental, industry changing and still hold up incredibly well 10+ years on.

The performance difference between the two is night and day.

I have both the A5000 and A5100. Both are great little cameras. I have made larger prints with the A5000. Two of six images selected for a show last year were taken with the A5000 and printed at 12x18. IIRC, one of those images was shot as a JPEG. With the 16-55mm kit lens or the TT 27mm f2.8, it makes a compact little keep on you camera. Neither the A5000 nor A5100 is the first choice for a primary video or stills camera. But they are fun and capable little cameras that can do the job if you can.

I've been using mine for years! Love it. Great for out and about, it's so cheap you don't mind if it takes a knock or 2. Mine's been dropped dozens of times, looks like shit but still takes a sharp pic.

I bought this camera in early 2015 before my daughter was born. She's 9 now and I have a whole collection of lenses including an MD adapter and and a small assortment of vintage Minolta lenses. Still going strong !

I bought this awesome little camera years ago on a whim and almost never used it. I have to find it. Gonna drive me nuts until I do.

It can record 24/25/30p. 25p and 30p are saved as 50i and 60i. It is perfect streaming camera. I use it for home video sometimes. It is not that much worse then my zve10.

Nice video! But no, it doesn't! Got the a5100 for about $120 body only in excellent condition, and it's much better than the a5000 - it has both a touchscreen, updated 24 MP sensor, and very importantly, phase-detect autofocus. Yours also seems to have taken a beating or was intentionally scratched against a wall, hope you haven't paid $200 for that!!...

im looking for a camera for some video that hopefully will allow me to get a nice cinematic b roll - i know apple filmed their latest show on the iphone (which I also considered) but perhaps there is a camera worth getting that you can recommend, will be getting some godox lights with softboxes, dont have a budget in mind but nothing outrageous either - its a for fun project if it doesnt work out ill just get rid of it.
