Imagine taking the time to mention that there were/are "historical inaccuracies" and cultural insensitivities (including "glaring" ones that remain unfixed), and not actually taking the time to discuss any of these. If they matter, talk about them. If they don't, why bring them up?

Aoe 3 is really fun, graphics was ahead of its time as well. This guy feels very cynical

So basically he's saying: "It's pretty but I'm an AOE2 fan so I don't like it."
Well then...
AOE2 is an awesome game. I like Castles, Rams, Scorpions, Onagers and a lot of the unique units but I would be more disappointed if AOE3 was just another AOE2.
Point of a sequel is to try new things which is what AOE3 did back in the day. It's not perfect since AOE2 kind perfected the Age of Empires formula already....
Once you reach your peak, you can't go any higher really.
The definitive edition rebalances some things, adds two new factions and fixes some of the grind of the Home City shipments.
Also new textures and models since its a Remaster.
Kind of all I really wanted from this DE really...
If I just wanted AOE2 again....well, I already have it....
Some of us even have all three of them.

This is a brilliant game - I don't think this review gives it credit at all. Hating on the home city though, did you actually play the game at all? It's the most fundamental feature in the game as it's supposed to be the entire basis of your strategy to win the game.

Anybody used to play this back in the OG days on 40 min treaty setting? That was epic.
