Actually it was Napoléon III, not Napoléon Bonaparte, who used aluminum flatware.

Must've made one feel super manly to work at an alluminium smeltery/refinery.

Making giant ingots that could be handled so casually due to them being so light.

Don't forget that "cheap" electricity (Teala's power plant at Niagara Falls was instrumental I believe) was also required

It went from a semi precious metal to something that you use to cover food once and then throw into the trash

Worked for 2 years in an aluminium refinery. Right in the heart where liquid metals were formed in the pots.
Those were the days

Carbon casting aluminum oxide is called carborundum, which is created when the DuPont chemical company capitalizes on the aluminum extraction process developed in Niagara Falls in the mid to late 19th century

The dude who discovered Aluminium was executed because the king he presented his new discovery to, was afraid this new metal could possibly be more expensive than gold and crash his wealth...

Fun fact. For every pound of Aluminium created by this process, something like 1.4 lbs of a horrifyingly toxic by product called Red Mud is created. This stuff is lethal to all life, and must be stored in vast outdoor lagoons, which often leak and contaminate the surrounding landscape. This is why recycling is so important - every ounce of reclaimed aluminium prevents the growth of these red mud lagoons.
