A lesser known stat about Ricky Ponting as captain, is in the 42 tests he lead after Warne and McGrath retired, Australia won 21 of them which is 50%. Lots of great captains leading great sides have win percentages of only slightly more than 50%, and Ponting did this with a team in rapid decline.

Vaughan was the only person who could captain Kevin Pietersen the right way. He was just great.

Ricky was just phenomenal

No statistics can show how dominating, entertaining and perfectionist the aussiess were.
Most of those tests were won by the end of the first day's play.

Some excellent points raised by Vaughan and Ponting, and surprisingly, the most pertinent one was raised by Swann: not to make the best player of your team the captain, because he may not have the personality of a captain. That said though, why isn't someone like Steve Waugh in this panel instead of Swann?

I disliked Rickey Ponting when I saw him hitting Indian bowlers all over the park in 2003 world cup final against India. And the dislike continued to increase until the sydney 2008 test against India. After watching him commenting at various places and in master class videos, am a big fan of him. He is truly a person to whom every youngster should listen to.

Three of those Australian captains in the top five had Shane Warne in their team.

In cricket pointing as a captain has reached such a hight that no body can, , , ,

I mean I know Waugh had a ludicrously talented side at his disposal, but a 72% win rate is nevertheless completely absurd.
Also funny that Swann's read on Root and the England captaincy turned out to be somewhat prophetic.

at 4.43 ... fortunately a super star in kevin pietersen and an outstanding opening batsman in andrew strauss came along to complement vaughn's own batting brilliance so that it wasn't mere fantasy cricket.

Mike Brearley is a great example of someone who was perfect for captaincy. He wasn’t the best player but he’s one of the best captains ever. His man management skills were 2nd to none and that’s the main thing needed to be a great captain.
