I was about 6 close to 7 years old when this show first came to American television..the grip this show had on us kids back then was incredible..lol. I used to sit in school at times just trying to draw the mach 5, my teacher would get mad at me for wasting time.. Some great old days and the memories of this show are so fond. Can't believe this was over 50 years ago, and the time has passed so fast in so many ways, and this cartoon is still as fun as it was back then..lol.

I love how the other drivers go over a cliff or smash into a wall, their cars burst into flames, and they clearly die a horrible fiery death, but nobody cared back then because IT'S JUST A CARTOON!. Nobody worried that little kids would freak out or be scarred for life by it. We have become a world of such fraidy cats.

I'm guessing in the original Japanese version, Pops had a heart attack! Not a fever! They probably thought for the American version that was too "heavy" for a kids show!
