WOW! Such a great video! My Father was good friends (he's even say best friends) with Art. We spent a lot of time with Art in the studio, at clubs and at his house when I was young. This video brings me back to my childhood. Art left us way too soon... Both Art and my Father passed away at the age of 56 just six years apart, which also happened to be their age difference. Kindred spirits I guess.

Almost a one-of-a-kind tone and style on the Alto. And Dumas was one of the unheralded greats. Pepper was one of the best of his era, indeed one of all time greats of any age.

I love every era of Art Pepper. His playing in his revival stage, as demonstrated here, is ferocious!

You would never think it was the same player, his attack, approach, articulation are NOTHING like they are on "...Meets the Rhythm Section". I'd love to know if that was a deliberate metamorphosis or if it was caused naturally by doing time and the pain of getting clean etc
