THE BATTLE OF LEGNANO (1176 AD) - Medieval Kingdoms Total War 1212AD

The Battle of Legnano was a battle between the imperial army of Frederick Barbarossa and the troops of the Lombard League on May 29, 1176, near the town of Legnano in present-day Lombardy, in Italy. Although the presence of the enemy nearby was already known to both sides, they suddenly met without having time to plan any strategy.

As an italian and a medieval history fan, i'd like to thank you deeply for doing this. The battle of Legnano is a mythological moment of italian history, still surrounded by an aura of legend. My city fought alongside Barbarossa against Milan, and to thank it for its service, the Emperor raised us new city walls, that are still standing to this day.

Most people don't notice the traces that History leaves for us, but when i walked along these walls on my way to school, i could not help but meditate about their history, that silently, they are still telling.

Not sure if already mentioned in the comments, but little historical context for the Company of Death. They were allegedly a band of 900 young Italian knights who took a solemn oath to die (if need be) on the field of battle defending the Carroccio of the Lombard League, led by the legendary Italian warrior Alberto da Giussano. However historical studies and modern historians/scholars now believe that both Alberto and the Company of Death, didn’t exist.

I think this battle feel really immersive because almost every unit from both side is from same tier, sometime in 1212 ad battle there huge different in unit tier. Its nice to see every unit in same tier

I am continuously impressed at the accuracy of the weapons and armour in this game. Seriously, they even got the falchions that the lower class troops were carrying right!

Did you know? In Milan, after the victory, a new wall was built. The main gate, Porta Romana, had engraved Barbarossa's wife shaving her pube just to mock the emperor. Although the gate and walls were destroyed centuries later for city works, the engraved stone still exists.
