I found a paper claiming a proof of Goldbach's Conjecture... Of course, the proof is wrong. #math #goldbachsconjecture #numbertheory #proof #publishing #stem

When a 12 year old decides to write his own proof after watching a numberphile video:

The "inverse Goldbach Conjecture" has, of course, been proven to be true for quite some time:

Every even prime is the sum of two odd numbers.

There’s no way this wasn’t published on April 1st.

Even knowing conference papers aren't reviewed much, one of the two named formal logical fallacies taught in secondary school education feels like a bit much. 😂

In my experience papers from IEEE usually have anyway very low quality if any whatsoever.

I am teaching intro to discrete math this semester. I'll introduce this video in class to help my students comprehend conditional statements and their converses.

2:34 it's actually if P and >4 then Q versus if Q and >4 then P, it's arguably even worse

If I remember correctly, IEEE already several times published stuff which was rather pseudoscientific already at first glance. Obviously, the editors and peer reviewers themselves don't really understand science and logic.

I think the problem is we are still seeking the Prime Number that is not odd other than 2. 🗿

I have to believe this was a joke. "We suggest that the sum of any two prime numbers greater than 2 is always an even number, " can't be anything but a joke, right?

Emphasis must be placed on the word "rudimentary."

I'm only 1:24 in but I predict AI wrote this proof.

I took the time to contact the two authors to ask if they were aware that some people were doubting their proof, and to explain, if they were interested, what was the basis of that doubt. They haven't answered.

There's a parody IEEE standard as an example that anyone can publish there, with no approval from an authority.

Basic misuse of equivalence instead of implication

What if you subtracted this proof from the hypothetical one, could you then narrow its form to a weaker statement?

Gotta love that hagoromo chalk 😂 (I am jealous)

IEEE gives it away -> some retired electronic engineer became a crackpot. But IEEE should have standards.

The real question is how this even got published. I'm not being sarcastic, don't submissions have to go through some kind of review before publication?
