According to Nash - Taker was served his divorce papers on this day, so as you can imagine he was mentally out of it. He just went with whatever Nash was giving him that night. Despite his real life woes, this was a great match. Kudos to both of these legends.

1996 was truly the beginning of The Undertaker breaking free from the restrictions imposed by his 'Deadman' character and WWE "From 1990 to 1995
He finally started getting opponents that allowed him to showcase his real in-ring abilities, and we clearly saw his performance level rise.
But it's also important to understand that the Golden Era (early 90s) demanded The Undertaker to wrestle in that limited style. That era was all about larger-than-life characters rather than technical in-ring work, so he had to stick to the cold, emotionless Deadman image to succeed within that system.
Even from his debut, he had a background in traditional wrestling, with rare agility for a man his size. But he sacrificed a big part of his capabilities to fully commit to the character — and that’s something to respect, because he maintained his mystique and built his legend despite the creative limitations of that era.

Unfortunately, back in 1996, local TV in Brazil no longer aired WWF (later WWE) programming, so it was never possible to watch this match between Diesel and The Undertaker.

Although this video has been available here and there on YouTube over the years, it was never through official channels. Being able to access it today officially and in great quality is truly a privilege.

In the ring, you had the two Superstars considered the most dominant big men in the industry...it was in Anaheim and and it was a true, physical, big man match. People saw two big guys going at it at a pace they weren't used to seeing. There was a lot of pride on the line that night. It was special because...we were locking up for the first time. Fortunately, I got my hand raised at the end, but it was a tremendous battle. Diesel left shortly thereafter."
