St. Paul’s Cathedral London has not been without its critics. Some architects note disgust of the Cathedral’s use of flying buttresses, one of the defining characteristics of medieval cathedrals. And like other Medieval style Cathedrals, St. Paul’s Cathedral also features a clerestory and aisles shorter than its nave.

Sir Christopher Wren designed St. Paul’s Cathedral London in the English baroque style. And within the baroque style, St. Paul’s Cathedral London exudes an exquisite amalgamation of Medieval and Renaissance design. St. Paul’s Cathedral is also noteworthy for its gargantuan scale. At 365 feet high, St. Paul’s Cathedral London was the tallest building in England from 1710 to 1963. St. Pauls remains the second largest church in the United Kingdom. Unique for its scale, contractors remarkably completed St. Paul’s Cathedral during Christopher Wren’s lifetime. Construction lasted from 1675 to 1710, a time frame spanning the reigns of five English monarchs. Christopher Wren regarded the cathedral as his most marvelous achievement.
