I've observed that the ghosts will move towards plumes that you've already picked up if the host hasn't picked up the plume you've found, well, that's my hypothesis. It's either the host not picking it up or the whole squad.

Of note regarding the Void Children Ghosts: They will not just lead you to a rare item, but they will lead you to the nearest one. This information does not get locked in when they spawn.

IF YOU PICK UP THE ITEM BEFORE THE GHOST ARRIVES AT ITS LOCATION, IT WILL CHANGE ITS DESTINATION TO THE NEXT RARE ITEM ON THE MAP.

If you know your way around the map a little and have the common hiding spots memorized, you can chain a single ghost to guide you to upwards of 5 rare locations. If you're unlucky, that might end up having the ghost run off to the last location on the map and then the first location though (since there's no way to guarantee that the first location is also the nearest to the first ghost).

I will say that at least on the PS versions of the game, golden instinct uses the exact same coding as the golden children ghosts, and causes the move to be unusable after you activate a child ghost. It literally told my Lavos he "needed more energy" to cast it.

As a mostly solo player, I would say that the Ghost children will help you learn where the voidplumes and Zariman Accolades generally spawn in the map but that's it. With the way they are now, they are highly inconsistent in their effectiveness with frequent 1km+ trips to an already picked up plume or just straight up falling through the map while running between rooms. He's most useful when you want to hunt down 10 Crests asap for the 3rd rank of Holdfasts syndicate. After that, I haven't even interacted with them again due to bounties giving guaranteed Quills with higher yield.

Also, the new landing craft Parallax comes with the Golden Eye air support ability, which marks all the rare loot (plumes, ayatans, accolades, kurias etc.) in the range of 150 meters. The cooldown of 10 minutes (5 minutes with Engineer Intrinsics ranked 2) is a drag, though.

Another note is that the Parallax landing craft gives you the "orokin eye" air support drop and this will highlight almost every plume and everything, including ayatan statues, syndicate medallions, and cephalon fragments, somachords, kuria etc within a 150M radius, grind is fairly simple with just a high range container nuke to make it drop eventually. The only exception is supply caches in sabotage missions, it will not mark those.

Tip: If you find an active Melica that means there is a Accolade nearby yes golden instinct can help find them but this is a tip for people who don’t have that yet or people who don’t care for golden instinct.

zephyrs airburst is subsumable and breaks boxes, give it range and it can clear an entire room of crates, very good cc ability as well

after ranking up to rank 3 and sacrificing the 3 cheapest plumes to rank up, i stopped looking for crests, downs and vanes in the tileset.

it just feels a bit faster and less tedious for me to spam T4 bounties and stockpile quills and the occasional quinion, especially since it'll take 2-3 days to max out standing because of the daily cap.

worth noting that the damage ticks from Octavia's Mallet (1) can also be used to break containers. She is a terrific Warframe that can easily fit Golden Instinct into her setup, as well as help with both offensive and defensive mission types.
AoE weapons like the Ogris (with Primed Firestorm) can also be used as a great supplemental box breaking tool.
Zephyr's Airburst (2) can also be used to gather up loot, though the radius isn't that great even with high range.

The best standing farm by far is doing a tier 4 bounty to kill dormant angels with a nekros, you get a marker to the angel so it can be done super quick

Saw a few comments on this but as of patch 31.5.4 for PC, Desecrate and Pilfering Swarm no longer work on angels.
From the patch notes:
Fixed Nekros’ Desecrate and Hydroid’s Pilfering Swarm being able to duplicate Voidplume Pinion and Arcane drops from Void Manifestation fights.
Restored these to match Khora’s Pilfering Strangledome and Atlas’ Ore Gaze Augment mods intentionally not applying their loot bonuses on Void Manifestations.

I observed that each tile set typically has set spawn points for void plumes

EG : For the cargo hangar tile set (large open area with tons of cargo container looking things)
Void plumes typically spawn on or near the cargo container stacks.
